Attempted Sexual Assault
Police and Crimestoppers are asking for your help in solving the following crime.

During the evening hours of Saturday December 4th, 2010, a female was hitch hiking from  Lake Cowichan on Highway 18.  She was picked up by a male in a black pick up truck. The male turned off Highway 18 onto what is believed to be Currie Creek Forest Service Road. The male stopped the pick up and then attempted to sexually assault her but the victim managed to free herself.  She escaped with bruising caused by the altercation with the suspect. The male is described as Caucasian, of large stature, with short hair.  He didn't have facial hair and has a deep voice. He may have sustained some facial bruising during the incident.

Upon freeing herself, the victim made her way back to Highway 18 and a female motorist picked her up taking her to safety. Police are actively investigating this attempted sex assault and are asking for the public's help in identifying a suspect.  We are hoping that someone may have seen the female victim being picked up at or near Lake Cowichan by the lone male suspect in the black pick up.

In addition, we are asking for the female witness who gave the victim a ride on the night in question to please come forward and contact police.
